Kevlar, a material five times stronger than steel, was invented by Stephanie Kwolek. Kwolek’s invention has saved the lives of thousands of soldiers, police officers, and firefighters.
Stephanie Kwolek, a lab chemist, made a groundbreaking discovery in 1965: a material that was stiff and robust despite being lightweight and heat resistant.
She stated, “All kinds of things can happen when you’re open to new ideas.”
It required six years of research and development before the material was ready for commercial use.
Application of Kevlar – Kevlar is used in bulletproof vests, boats, gloves, camping equipment, ropes, tires, helmets, coats, airplanes, bridges and bicycles.
