In light of the Ukraine – Russia war, India is striving to get it’s students out safe from the war-torn Ukraine. According to an estimate 18,000 Indians are currently in Ukraine with a majority of them being Medical students.
So why is Ukraine or for that matter countries like China and Russia a popular choice among Indian medical aspirants.
This article originally featured in The Mint breaks down the reason behind Ukraine as a choice.
Following reasons emerge as the plus points to study medicine abroad
- Lower cost of study as compared to private medical colleges in India
- No competitive exams needed
- Degree recognized by WHO and valid in India
After obtaining their degrees, students appear for the Foreign Medical Graduates Exam (FMGE) to get a license to practice medicine in India.
But what about the quality of education?
There is no concrete data to show foreign medical graduates are better prepared for the profession. Even if the quality of education is at par with private Indian colleges, all the above mentioned factors make studying medicine abroad a better choice.
