The government has decided to increase the number of overseas countries from 12 to 25 for the IIT-JEE entrance exam. The latest countries included in the list are the United States of America, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, China, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, among others.
This is the opportunity for NRIs and international students from these countries to pass the IIT-JEE exam, which will help them enroll in the top technical institutions in India under the Direct Admission of Student Abroad (DASA) scheme. While IITs are excluded from DASA, the government is setting up IIT campuses abroad. The move is also set to include the National Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Information Technology, School of Planning and Architecture and other technical institutions that the Central government funds.
